Rev. Dr. Jill Edens & Rev. J. Richard Edens

Interim Senior Co-Pastors

Richard and Jill Edens have served as co-pastors for 42 years.  They met at Yale Divinity School where they received their M.Div. degrees.  Married on graduation weekend, they set out to serve as Co-Associate Pastors at Community Church in Elm Grove, WI.  In 1979 they were called to be Senior Pastors at the United Church of Chapel Hill, UCC in NC.  When they retired in 2017 United Church was a congregation of more than 900 members with 26 staff members.  At the end of their ministry at United Church they did significant work with the “Working Group on Transitions in Large Membership Churches, Pension Boards, UCC.”  Working with churches in transition has become their passion in their second career as interim pastors.  The Edenses have served three churches since arriving in Massachusetts in 2017: The Congregational Church of Weston, First Parish Westwood, and, currently, First Congregational Church Wellesley Hills.

Jill and Richard have one daughter, Rev. Ruth Edens, who serves the Boston City Mission as the Director of Development.  She and her husband, David Zimmer, live in Jamaica Plain and have two children, Daniel and Helen.
