ALL AGES WELCOME!  The Willie Sordillo Ensemble regularly plays for the Thursday evening Jazz Service at the Old South Church.  In addition to being an award-winning musician\, Willie Sordillo has served on the staff of the Massachusetts Conference of the UCC\, been an activist for peace & justice\, and played in churches across Massachusetts. \nSunday\, June 12: Special worship with Church School Celebration and music 10:00 a.m.\, all church barbeque to follow

DESCRIPTION:Abolition\, Temperance\, and the Founding of Hills Church\nZoom Meeting\, May 11\, 7pm\nRegister HERE\n\n\nJoin us for a conversation with Dr. Laurie Maffly-Kipp about religious movements at the time of the founding of Hills Church including abolitionism\, temperance and women’s activism in Congregational churches.\n\nPlease register in advance. Once you click on this link you will be taken to a page to register by giving your email address. Once you register you will be sent a confirmation email with a link to enter the meeting on Wednesday\, May 11\, at 7pm. We will begin promptly at 7pm so please enter the meeting at 6:55pm. If you have questions\, please contact Richard Edens (richard@hillschurch.org).\n\nLaurie Maffly-Kipp is the Archer Alexander Distinguished Professor at the John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics. She also serves as the Interim Dean of the Graduate School and Vice Provost for Graduate Education at Washington University in St. Louis.\n\nHer publications are many and include: Religion and Society in Frontier California (Yale University Press\, 1994); a recent volume of essays entitled Practicing Protestants: Histories of Christian Life in America\, 1630-1965 (Johns Hopkins University Press\, 2006) with Leigh Schmidt and Mark Valeri; Setting Down the Sacred Past: African-American Race Histories (Harvard University Press\, 2010); and Women’s Work\, a co-edited collection of writings by African-American women historians (Oxford University Press\, 2010).\n\nPrior to joining the Center\, Maffly-Kipp taught for twenty-four years at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Religious Studies and American Studies. (While in Chapel Hill\, she and her family were active members of the United Church of Chapel Hill where Jill and Richard were the Ministers.) She earned her B.A. from Amherst College in English and Religion\, summa cum laude\, and completed the Ph.D. in American History at Yale University with distinction (1990).
