SUMMARY:Indigenous People of Concord Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join members of the Justice and Action Team for a private walking tour about the Indigenous history of Concord\, MA! \nFor over 10\,000 years the indigenous people of the land knew this area as Musketaquid. The land between the grassy rivers.  This tour explores the history of the first people and how they lived in a land of abundance seeking to keep and foster balance with the natural world\, their mother\, who sustained them always. What happened when cultures collided after European fur traders came and then English settlers in the 17th century will be discussed as we examine how those events shape the world of the indigenous people of Massachusetts today. \nThis tour departs the Concord Visitor Center at 58 Main Street and is approximately 90  minutes over uneven terrain. \nRegister HERE

SUMMARY:Living Waters Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Living Waters is an open small group that meets weekly every Tuesday morning at 9:30am for one hour of fellowship\, meditation\, prayer and discussion.  Each week\, a written piece of poetry or an essay along with corresponding scripture is emailed to the group in advance of the Tuesday morning meeting\, which is held on Zoom.  Participants join the Zoom space and we share brief check-ins and prayer requests.  Then for thirty minutes Pastor Christine invites the group to meditate upon the reading and the scripture\, which are spoken aloud.  During the time of silent meditation\, members may practice whatever kind of meditation best suits them and their individual needs.  After the time of silence\, Pastor Christine calls the members back into fellowship by reciting the Lord’s Prayer.  Members then have the option to share impressions\, visions\, prayers and insights that arose during their meditation. \nPlease join Pastor Christine on Tuesday mornings for Living Waters Meditation via Zoom. \nTime:  Tuesdays:  9:30-10:30am\nVia Zoom:  Click HERE \nPlease contact Pastor Christine with questions.

SUMMARY:Rev. Emma Brewer-Wallin & the Green Congregation Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The Rev. Emma Brewer-Wallin\, SNEUCC Minister for Economic and Environmental Justice\, will be our guest preacher on November 13th and will stay following worship to discuss with us the Green Congregation Challenge. \nIncreasingly\, we are adjusting to life with a changed climate. Our conference has initiated a challenge for individuals\, families\, communities\, and congregations to engage creatively and faithfully to this transition. More information about this step-by-step challenge may be found on-line – Green Congregation Challenge. \nThe SNEUCC also has tri-fold brochures that you may find around the church or online at Green Congregation Brochure. \nThere are four levels of this challenge:\nLevel One: Getting Started\nLevel Two: Creating a Plan\nLevel Three: Building Momentum\nLevel Four: Expanding Impact \nYou can see the four levels of the challenge Green Congregation Levels. \nEach level has possible steps in four different categories (Educate\, Organize\, Connect\, and Advocate).  Each level also includes suggested actions to Reduce/Recycle/Rethink.  The Challenge is designed to connect with congregations and individuals in varying contexts\, with varying “built-environments\,” and varying levels of commitment. It is designed to invite us to reflect faithfully about God’s call of us to be co-creators\, to bring us into a common conversation\, and to encourage us to act. \nPlan to be a part of the conversation! For more information\, talk with Richard Edens\, richard@hillschurch.org.

SUMMARY:Conversation about the UCC with Rev. Dr. David Cleaver Bartholomew
DESCRIPTION:Together with the United Church of Christ nationally\, the Southern New England Conference\, United Church of Christ (SNEUCC)\, and the Metropolitan Boston Association we are a part of a much wider church than our single congregation. Next Sunday\, October 23\, following worship\, we will host Rev. Dr. David Cleaver Bartholomew\, Director of Stewardship\, SNEUCC\, for a conversation about our participation in the wider church. Please plan to join the conversation in the Reception Room after worship next Sunday. \nThe polity or organizational structure of the United Church of Christ recognizes “The basic unit of the life and organization of the United Church of Christ is the local church (UCC Constitution).” There are other “settings” of the church (Association\, Conference\, General Synod) in addition to the local congregation and all are in a covenantal relationship with each other. \nLocal churches are gathered in regional bodies called Associations who oversee and authorize and ordained ministers. The association ordains new ministers\, holds ministers’ standing in covenant with local churches\, and is responsible for disciplinary action; typically\, a specific ministerial committee handles these duties. \nLocal churches also are members of larger Conferences. A conference typically contains multiple associations. Conferences provide support for the search-and-call process.  Conferences also provide significant programming resources for their constituent churches\, such as Christian education resources and support\, interpretation of the larger UCC’s mission work\, and church vitality. \nIn the United Church of Christ\, there is freedom for Associations and Conferences to organize themselves thus the duties and responsibilities outlined above may divided out differently from one Conference to the next. For example\, some Conferences are so small they operate as the Association as well. \nThe SNEUCC is the union of the historic Massachusetts\, Connecticut\, and Rhode Island Conferences. The SNEUCC has 615 local churches\, more than 1600 authorized ministers and nearly 120\,000 members. Rev. Darrell L. Goodwin is the Executive Conference Minister. The SNEUCC is divided into 6 regions served by an Area Minister and 26 Associations. For example\, the Rev. Alex Shea Will is the Area Minister for the Northeast Region and serves the Northeast Association and the Metropolitan Boston Association. Hills Church is a part of the Metropolitan Boston Association (MBA). \nJoin us after worship on October 23 for a conversation with Rev. Dr. David Cleaver Bartholomew\, Director of Stewardship for the SNEUCC\, in the Reception Room.
