Upon leaving for Church School, students go to the third floor of the Parish House for their classes. Students through Grade 6 have a time of worship and music, as well as a classroom lesson.
At the Hills Church, the first Sunday of each month is Communion Sunday. All family members are invited to join in worship together at 10 a.m. in the Sanctuary.
Optional: For those families who would rather have their younger children participate in an activity on Communion Sundays, children in Kindergarten through first grade, are able to start in the Sanctuary – and then make their way upstairs for a one room lesson.
K – Fourth Grade
At Hills Church, we use a rotation workshop curriculum for this age group. Bible story lessons are presented in three week units – with children rotating with their age group to a different workshop each Sunday. Children might dress up and act out the story one week, then create a piece of art, watch a movie, play games, perform in a puppet theater, or do a science experiment, (just to name a few!) in the following weeks.
We believe that with hands on participation in each of the workshops, children are better able to understand and remember the Bible stories. Children have a great time because there are a variety of activities – and they are all lots of fun!
Parents of elementary school aged children are asked to meet their daughters and sons at their third floor classrooms at the conclusion of Sunday worship.
Kindergarten Move up Sunday
Each September, every kindergarten child receives a special tour before the 10:00 a.m. Sunday Worship Service on Rally day. This is a fun introduction to the Church School rotation. Each kindergartener will also receive a Bible if they don’t already have one.
Our Church School classes are taught by dedicated volunteers, with training and support from Sally Tomasetti, Coordinator of Children’s Ministry.
