The outreach activity of our church has continued despite the Covid-19 pandemic. The members of the Christian Service Support Board (CSSB) have remained in touch with the organizations which we have supported financially. Here are reports from two of those organizations.
Friends of Boston’s Homeless continues to support residents in their Community Housing Programs where they have established strong safety protocols and assist with groceries and prescription deliveries. They have set up two new Care Sites for people from the two Boston shelters who test negative for SARS-CoV-2, alleviating crowding at the emergency shelters. They continue to help those they have already housed through their Housing Start-up Fund and have helped 26 people move into homes of their own, some of them having been homeless for many years.
New Life Furniture Bank established a virtual furniture bank with hosts guiding clients. Warehouse volunteers maintain Covid precautions while uploading inventory to the online store and at the end of each week loading delivery trucks. They are accepting a limited number of volunteers to work electronically or at their warehouse. They can service 9 veteran clients weekly & served 32 clients in May. They are accepting furniture donations from the public by appointment only and at an open air parking lot. They also received “truckloads” of furniture from Wayfair, Re-Stream (brought from Babson College) & LPC Removal Service. 354 people participated in their virtual 5K run & raised $55,000. Two Medfield High School seniors established a “Furniture Matters” club to support the Furniture Bank.
